The project «Hostal España» represents an innovative foray into collaborative audiovisual creation, offering an alternative vision of life in old age. Developed by the Laboratorio de Antropología Audiovisual Experimental (LAAV_), in collaboration with the workers and residents of the hostel of the same name, located in a provincial city, the focus of the project is on elderly people, many of them from abandoned rural areas. The participation of BAU Professor and Dra. Mafe Moscoso stands out in this initiative, who brings a critical and reflexive look at the process of audiovisual creation, challenging the norms of neoliberal time to ethnographic practices.
Accompanying the screening of the film «Hostal España» from 2020, the homonymous book «Hostal España. Lo gesto hospedante, la etnografía hospedante» (LAAV_ and Menoslobos, 2023), written by Chus Domínguez and the aforementioned Mafe Moscoso. Through correspondence between Domínguez and Moscoso, as well as the article «El gesto hospedante», it delves into the ethnographic aspects and complexities of audiovisual creation, questioning the paradigm of neoliberal time. Claudia Delso’s illustrations, based on stills from the film, further enrich this visual and textual experience.
On Saturday, 20 April, at 6.45pm, there will be a presentation and discussion of the project, with the participation of Chus Domínguez, co-director of the film.
