The Second International Congress on Feminist Anthropology will be held at the University of Granada from 1 to 3 July 2024, organised by the group ‘Otras. Perspectivas Feministas en Investigación Social’ (Others. Feminist Perspectives in Social Research). Under the slogan ‘In the streets and in academia. Imagining shared presents’, this event seeks to explore the intertwining of anthropology and feminist movements.
The relationship between feminism and anthropology, described by Marilyn Strathern as ‘uncomfortable’ or even ‘parodic,’ will be the starting point for constructing new imaginaries. In the context of the eco-social crisis, there will be a debate on how to dismantle androcentric, ethnocentric, and anthropocentric narratives.
The conference will feature plenary lectures, round tables, and thematic symposiums. Crucial topics such as violence, sexual diversity, health and the body, reproductive technologies, migration, and the social organisation of care will be addressed. All of this will be underpinned by ethical and methodological reflections.
PhD Cecilia De Marinis coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Design Research, will present ‘Feminist Ethnographies’ within the framework of the conference, contributing her critical perspective. In addition, anthropologists from various universities in Spain, America, and Europe will participate, as well as international networks and feminist movements from Granada.
This conference promises to be a disruptive and necessary space to question and reimagine our realities from a feminist perspective.
